One of my primary responsibilities at 22News was to produce Topical promos for the nightly news. There were two main versions of these promos, a 15-second that would air throughout the night and a 30-second that would air during prime time. Despite being relatively simple to produce, these promos would have a strict deadline which allowed me to hone my time management skills. Barring one technical hiccup, which I communicated in advance, I never missed a deadline.

While not as frequent as the Topicals or the Starting at Five, the In-Focus promos were another of my routine promos. Structurally it’s similar to the Starting at Five promos, but the actual writing and filming of it were more involved.

Next to the Topicals, the Starting at Five promos were on the jobs I needed to do daily with a relatively tight deadline. These advertised the news for the following evening, and since I had more information about the topic, I could do more with them compared to the Topicals.

This was a remake of a similar promo that was made a while ago but, unfortunately, was corrupted. The Job Notification List spot was the first time I had the opportunity to learn graphic animation on Premiere, and I’m proud of the final result.

This is an example of a promo for investigative reports. Due to the variety of topics the I-Team covers, these promos allow me to practice my design and animation abilities.

After severe weather would hit the Western Massachusetts area or there was an election, we would produce a promo highlighting the work of either the meteorologists or news team respectively.
